Mindbody Movement Pilates Selfcare

Butt Strength, balance and stability

Happy Monday to you…

Although I talked last Wednesday about this being a busy season, it’s also a time of year when we can find ourselves sitting for long periods of time. Depending on what you do for your work, you might already be sitting most of the day…

One of the many problems that comes with sitting a lot of the time is that your butt gets weak. If you are over 40, we lose 3-8% muscle mass per decade… and not doing regular exercises to slow the process down, you will be at the higher end of that scale.

Your butt muscles are the biggest muscles in your body, which means when they are active and strong, not only do they help your movement, balance and stability, but they are burning more energy at rest.

Getting up and down from the floor is very beneficial for your mobility, balance and strength… Getting up and down to your chair without using your hands can help too. Standing tall as you walk up stairs (without pulling yourself up with banister) can help.

A common complaint I hear from women is they get sore knees when they are doing these movements… If you are getting sore knees, my guess without looking at you would be that you are not getting the muscles working and you are putting pressure in your joints.

We work on this a lot in Pilates, muscle activation, safe movement for your joints…

I teach this in my live online classes, my live in person class, when I work with people 1:1 and in my Pilates & Yoga at Home classes… there are many ways I can help… I am going to be finishing up for Christmas on 16th Dec, but the Pilates & Yoga at Home is available to you 24/7… and it’s only £2.50 per week to get access… an absolute bargain…you pay monthly, and can cancel at any time…
