Closing The Bones

Closing the Bones | Being Rocked, & Wrapped | The Healing Rebel, Glasgow

A 90 minute rocking, massage and wrapping ritual for women who need to feel held. No undressing required. Book in Springburn, Glasgow.

Closing the Bones

The first-born daughter energy (even if you are not literally the eldest) is usually the one that holds everything together, you probably learned it was safer and easier to be needed than to be held.

When was the last time you let someone hold you? (That question made me a bit uncomfortable!)

Closing the Bones was traditionally a postnatal recovery, though that’s where this ritual comes from. I’m offering outside of that because so many of you have told me, in one way or another, that you want to feel wrapped up, rocked, swaddled. Looked after, for once, without having to do anything or be anything.

What is Closing The Bones?

This is a full-body ritual of rocking, gentle massage, and wrapping, done on the floor rather than the treatment table. I use fabric, not the traditional rebozo scarves, to rock and wrap the whole body from head to feet, with particular attention to the pelvis and hips (that’s where most of us carry the tension we don’t even know we’re carrying).

It’s slow, gentle and deliberate, with no effort from you.

Who is this for?

This isn’t just for new mums, though it works beautifully for that too. I offer it for:

Women who carry tension in their bodies that they can’t seem to shift, no matter how much they stretch, foam roll, or tell themselves to “just relax.”

Women who’d love a massage but the thought of undressing, or being touched directly, feels like a step too far right now.

Women who are curious, who want to try something different from the usual menu of massage and Reiki.

Women who, if they’re honest, just need to be held.

You don’t need to have given birth. You don’t need a reason. Wanting to feel nurtured is reason enough.

What happens in a session?

Your 90 minute session starts with cacao or herbal tea, a moment to arrive and settle before anything else happens. The room is set up differently for this one, floor-based rather than the massage bed, because the rocking and wrapping needs that space. I also find lying on the floor easier to let go and ground.

From there, it’s rocking, massage, and wrapping, moving slowly through the body. Some people find it deeply relaxing and drift off. Some people may feel emotions bubble that they weren’t expecting. Both are completely normal, and there’s no pressure either way. This ritual tends to meet you exactly where you are with what you need.

You stay clothed throughout, so if touch or undressing has ever felt like a barrier to bodywork for you, this may be worth trying.

Can I combine it with the Reset or the Recalibration?

Yes, if you let me know in advance. Because the room needs setting up on the floor rather than the bed, I need to prepare properly, so just mention it when you book.

Did you know?

This kind of bodywork has existed in cultures all over the world for generations, usually passed down between women, usually undocumented. It’s not a gimmick or a trend I’ve picked up. It’s an old practice that was shared and through the medicalisation of giving birth, it’s been lost from our culture, and I think it’s worth bringing back, not just for new mums, but for any woman who’s spent long enough holding everyone else up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be postnatal to book this?

No. While Closing the Bones comes from postnatal traditions, I offer it for any woman who wants to feel held, rocked and nurtured, regardless of whether or when she’s had children or not. I have never had children and found it to be a very powerful treatment. If you wish this treatment specifically as part of a post-natal treatment plan, I do know an excellent doula that I can recommend, Fiona Corr-Macleod

Is this treatment only for women?

While the treatment is suitable for anyone, I only work with women.

Will I need to undress?

No. You stay fully clothed throughout the session, which makes this a good option if being touched directly or undressing for a massage doesn’t feel comfortable for you. If you choose a longer treatment and wish to add a hands on massage then you can undress for that part.

What if I get emotional during the session?

Some sessions are deeply relaxing, others bring things to the surface. There’s no wrong way to experience it. I always encourage you to let the emotion move through you so it feels released. Too many of us swallow back down or trap the emotions inside (especially us first born, where we may not have been allowed to express emotion in the past.

How long is the session and what’s included?

90 minutes (or longer), including cacao or herbal tea and drumming. The session itself is done on the floor rather than the massage table. Longer sessions can include a hands on massage or Reiki treatment.

Can I include this to my Reset or Recalibration booking?

Yes, just let me know when you book so the room can be set up properly in advance.

Do you work with under 16’s?

Yes, I can work with under 16’s as long as both the young person and their parent/guardian/carer gives consent. The youngest I work with is 10 years old. For first treatments I would always suggest the adult stays in the room during the treatment, however if the young person would prefer to not have the adult in the room, they can sit outside the room in the hallway.
